PLANNING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Research Consultant, Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA). Researched and updated the MBTA’s neighborhood station maps in Boston, Newton, and Brookline. 2010 

Historic Resources Planner, Essex Heritage Project, National Park Service/Salem Partnership. Researched natural, historical, and cultural resources of Essex County. Co-authored Action Plan resulting in establishment of Essex National Heritage Area. 1992–1994 

Director, Open Space Program, Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Established and directed the $17.5 million Open Space Program, to acquire more than thirty scenic parcels of land adjacent to public ways. Developed and presented visual and written public information materials; directed public relations and education for the Open Space Program. Created partnerships with MassDOT agencies, other state agencies, and non-profit environmental organizations. 1985–1991 

Project Manager, WalkBoston. Coordinated historic research, cartography, and writing of “Shawmut Peninsula Walk: Tracing Boston’s Original Shoreline.” Editor, WalkBoston Newsletter. 1993-2003 

Project Manager, Office of Real Property, Division of Capital Planning and Operations, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Coordinated and reviewed all land acquisitions conducted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with a focus on land acquisitions by state environmental agencies. Organized seminars for government personnel on negotiation techniques. 1984–1985 

Project Manager, Harvard Negotiation Project. Editor of “Negotiation Newsletter.” 1983– 1984 

Planning Aid Officer, Town and Country Planning Association, UK. Provided planning aid assistance to UK community groups, which included over twenty land conservation projects. Researched and wrote Using Urban Wasteland (Bedford Square Press). 1977–1980.
